NEW Cycle Maps for East Dorset
17th November 2008
Five free cycle maps have been produced for East Dorset to help residents and visitors cycle to work and leisure facilities around the more populated areas within the District, including Sturminster Marshall, Corfe Mullen, Wimborne Minster, Ferndown, West Moors, West Parley, Three Legged Cross, Ashley Heath, St Leonards & St Ives, Verwood and Alderholt.
The detailed maps include signed cycle lanes, suggested cycle routes, as well as those that are traffic free. They are intended to help cyclists find the best routes to work, school, shops, health centres and places for leisure, as well as references to other existing maps, including the recreational route maps produced by Moors Valley Country Park.
The project known as CASED (Cycle Access Solutions for East Dorset), has been made possible through funding from the East Dorset Community Partnership, Dorset County Council, Dorset Cyclists’ Network, and Dorset Industrial Estates.
Michael Evans, Founder of the Dorset Cyclists’ Network said of the maps, “I am absolutely delighted with the maps which are the result of months of hard work by a diverse and dedicated team. They are something of a milestone, and I hope that these maps will encourage many more people to cycle to work and leisure facilities”.
The maps will be distributed on the 29th November on a promotional bike ride across the district, and will also be available from local Tourist Information Centres, libraries, Town and Parish Councils and a variety of other outlets, or can be downloaded from the websites www.eastdorsetcommunitypartnership.org.uk and www.ferndownforum.com
