Greenwood Tree Project
5th July 2009
Ancient Tree Hunt
The National Trust
Would you like to help to survey the famous landmark Beech Avenue at Kingston Lacy Estate.
The beech trees are thought to be over 170 years old. In 2008, 21 of these Beech trees had to be felled after they were found to have contracted the parasitic fungus, Kretzschmaria deusta. This fungus lives within and feeds upon the heart wood of the tree.
Sadly, this pattern is set to continue as they approach the end of their natural lives. As such, we would like to survey the trees to ensure written records of the trees.
With approximately 630 trees to survey - we really need your help.
Everyone is welcome and training, if needed, will be provided on the day.
The dates are;
Sunday 5th July 11am – 4pm
Monday 6th July 10am – 4pm
Even if you can only spend a couple of hours it would be very much appreciated.
