Meeting Notes
10th September 2008
The Committee Room, East Dorset District Council at 7pm
1.Welcome from the Chair
John Shave welcomed the group.
2. Chairman’s Report
See Waitrose Update below
3. Update
Queen Elizabeth School Building Progress
The ground works for the new school are on-going and it is anticipated there will be some building above ground level around Christmas time.
The initial temporary access route to the left hand side of the school is in place and will be followed by gas/electrical/water works and so there will be temporary traffic lights in place when these works occur.
Waitrose
The following amendments have been made to the application:
1. Direct rampage footpath link between Rowlands Hill and store entrance
2. Redesign of car park and car park layout
3. Additional cycle parking
4. Revision to Lewens Lane/Rowlands Hill roundabout layout
5. Revised surface water drainage
6. Provision made for ecological pond subject to detailed design
The Wimborne Civic Society updated the group on their stance regarding the application;
In general they are now in support of the application and welcome the recent amendments that have been made regarding street scene, materials and pedestrian access across Pippins Bridge.
There are still a number of issues they would like to see addressed:
1. Firmer commitment to ensuring finance set aside for the provision of a footbridge over the River Allen is used only for that end and no other
2. Risk assessment of ecological pond
3. Consideration of a spur road from car park southwards to Park Lane
4. Proposed new bus stops should incorporate lay-bys to prevent congestion
Robin Cook advised that the town council are equally split on the decision of the Waitrose application, therefore as a body there is no official comment. Individual councillors are advised to respond to EDDC by 12/09/08.
The group thanked the Wimborne Civic Society for their commitment.

They are also seeking a representative from voluntary/community sector to represent the group on the East Dorset Community Partnership.
4. Neighbour Disputes
Bob Bailey was introduced to the group as the Anti Social Behaviour Reduction Officer for EDDC. Much of his recent work has been focussed on neighbour disputes and one approach is to run workshops to relevant Home Watch groups in order to teach approaching/coping techniques that Home Watch members may find useful within their own area. It was suggested the CAB could also become involved in this.
5. Open Forum
John Eyre raised the issue of Ring Master information recently becoming near non- existent. John Shave advised the group that Dorset police intend to only have one member of staff to cover all Home Watch queries within the Dorset County Council area due to funding shortages. John is involved in ongoing discussions with Dorset Police to prevent this from happening.
Henry Bartlett expressed concern regarding traffic speed within Wimborne. Action: JS/HB John Shave advised the SID may be of some use.
It was highlighted that the area between North Leigh Lane and Beaucroft Lane (approaching the intersection of The Vinerys) is currently unrestricted regarding speed. It was noted the undergrowth also requires cutting back.
There have been reports of fly tipping within the area; the group were advised that the National Farmers Union were looking to purchase cameras for farm land where this is an area of concern.
Leigh Park PACT are investigating a 20mph limit within the whole of Leigh Park.
Red telephone boxes are planned to be removed unless they are situated in a conservation area or it is felt it would be detrimental to remove the building. If individual telephone boxes remain there will be no instruments within the box. Members are encouraged to report any red telephone boxes they would consider should remain in place.
6. Any Other Business
The next meeting will be held on 19th November 2008 at 7:00pm at East Dorset District Council.
