Oliver’s Park - Children have their say!

Children as young as 5 years old were eligible to vote in a consultation process in Oliver’s Park, Colehill to determine the design of much-needed new play equipment.
The chairman and clerk of Colehill Parish Council presented four designs for a multi-play activity unit to the children on Saturday 26th September 2009. They were given coloured stickers and asked to vote for their favourite design and also for their favourite feature: 45 children voted in the survey and a clear preference was shown. The winning design will be presented to the Parish Council at a meeting on the 27th October and it is anticipated that work to install the new equipment will take place in January.
Chairman, KD Johnson, was also able to explain to accompanying parents that the Parish Council is planning a policy of selective thinning, crown-lifting and coppicing of the tall trees in Churchmoor Copse that overshadow the play park. This will allow a lot more light and sunshine into the area, particularly during the winter months. This work is scheduled to take place towards the end of the year, prior to the installation of the new play equipment.
Councillor Johnson said, “ It was a lovely day and lots of people turned up. Public debates such as this and the recent one that took place on the allotments issue are a useful means of receiving public input and to explain our objectives. This was a great way to introduce so many youngsters to local democracy and to increase their sense of pride and ownership in the play park.”
