Alderholt Parish Plan Launch Event December 2006

Working Groups

The Partnership is made up of a number of groups, working at different levels of influence.

The work of the Partnership is overseen and monitored by a Steering Board. This involves key representatives from a number of organisations including East Dorset District Council, Dorset Police, Dorset County Council, Federation of Small Businesses, Dorset Association of Parish and Town Councils, Connexions, Dorset Primary Care Trust, Help the Aged, East Dorset Education Partnership, Community Magazine, East Dorset Friends of the Earth, and Government Office for the South West. The Board is independently Chaired by local resident Sir Ronald Stuart-Paul.

Chairs of the 6 Theme Action Groups (TAGs) also sit on the Steering Board, and are responsible for taking actions forward on issues of importance to East Dorset under their Theme. The six TAGs cover Environment, Community Safety, Health, Housing, Traffic & Transport and Young People. There is also a close association with EDALE who will consider cultural matters including arts and leisure.

Local Action Groups (LAGs) are based around the Towns of Ferndown, Wimborne, and Verwood. They include representatives from their Town Council and are open to local residents to attend. Groups highlight and discuss issues raised by local residents, and are often used as consultation groups on various planning matters. Funds are currently being sought to enable these groups to carry out extensive consultation in order to produce Town Plans. Local Action Groups also exist in Alderholt and West Moors to support the implementation of their completed Parish Plans.

Parish Plans are progressed in rural villages, and involve wide consultation with their respective parishioners before an action plan is put together.

Smaller working groups also come together from time to time to progress specific projects. The ‘Communications Working Group’ for example is a small group who are overseeing the development of the website and will play a key role in developing the communications element of the new community plan being put together during 2007.
